Targeting
Every experiment defines where it runs and who sees it. Targeting has four layers: device, page type, audience, and domain. The first three are set per experiment. Domains are set once for your whole account.
Devices
Section titled “Devices”An experiment can target desktop visitors, mobile visitors, or both. A change that works well on a wide screen often needs a different treatment on a phone, so Shuttlebase frequently builds and tests them separately.
Page types
Section titled “Page types”Experiments target pages by type rather than by individual URL. Shuttlebase recognizes many page types, examples include:
- Homepage
- Product page (PDP)
- Product list (PLP)
- Cart, side cart, and cart popup
- Checkout
- Signup
- Blog
- Quiz
- Support
- etc.
Page targeting also drives collision avoidance. Two experiments that touch the same pages never run at the same time, and the scheduler holds the later one until the first finishes. See Experiment Lifecycle.
Audiences
Section titled “Audiences”An experiment can be limited to a specific audience instead of all visitors. Audience definitions are part of your account configuration and ship inside your tracking snippet, so the check happens in the visitor’s browser before any variant is served.
